One figure, as the file carries it

The first row of our table is Chefchaouen: €92 for two for the four eclipse nights, read on 24 September 2026 on Booking.com. In destinations.json that row reads:

{
  "key": "chefchaouen",
  "name": "Chefchaouen",
  "rank": 1,
  "page_url": "https://eclipsemission.com/2027/morocco/chefchaouen/",

Six tools

list_destinations
Where to see the eclipse, in the order of our table. Optional: max_price_per_person_eur, min_totality_seconds, country, open_to_all_visitors.
plan_trip
The places that fit one traveller. Each comes with the entry regime for their passport and the fares we read from their airport, shown next to the stay and never added to it. Optional: origin, passport and the filters of list_destinations.
get_destination
Every figure for one place. destination is a key from the table above; passport, optional, is one of FR, GB, US, CA, SA, AE, MA.
compare_destinations
Two to four places side by side, in the order of our table. destinations is a list of keys; passport is optional.
get_flights
The airfares we have read. Optional: origin, an airport code such as CDG, and destination.
list_eclipse_sites
The 87 points of sites.json. Optional: country, min_totality_seconds, max_cloud_pct, in_path, and sort by totality. It takes no coordinates: a place missing from the list has not been computed.

The server also serves each file above as a resource, plus one prompt, plan_eclipse_trip. It starts a trip plan from an airport, a passport and a budget.

Questions to try

Every answer the server returns carries the reading day of each price and the page to link.

What the figures mean

Every file and every answer carries these rules, because a figure read without them says something else.

Prices and stays

  1. The lodging figure is the mean of the ten cheapest rooms listed for two adults, 31 July to 4 August 2027 (four nights), taxes included, on the platform and the day named. It is never "the cheapest room". A reading with fewer than ten listings is the mean of those listed; sample_size says how many.
  2. per_person_eur is the stay for two divided by two. A solo traveller is a different search, given as solo_traveller where it was measured.
  3. The Eclipse Premium is the eclipse-week mean divided by the same search one week later (7 to 11 August 2027) in the same town. It is never computed across towns.
  4. A cheap stay, on this site, is one at or under 130 EUR for two for the four nights.

The eclipse, the sky and the heat

  1. Totality durations and times come from our oracle, never from a web lookup.
  2. Cloud is a range between two reanalyses, NASA POWER and Copernicus ERA5, never one number: quote both ends. midday_cloud_pct is ERA5 over the hours totality falls in.
  3. Heat is the mean daily maximum over the eclipse fortnight, 2001-2024 (NASA POWER): a proxy for the temperature at totality, not a measurement of it.

Entry, access and flights

  1. Entry regimes are per passport. A passport we did not collect is not answered with another's regime, and a fee is a number only where the issuing authority publishes it.
  2. Access: "Public transport confirmed" means a named operator publishes a timetable we read, today's grid and not a 2027 one; "Stop mapped, service not confirmed" means OpenStreetMap maps a stop and no operator publishes a grid for it.
  3. Flights come in two families that are never added together: Google Flights searches (return trip, two adults, as the search displayed it) and easyJet fares read at the airline (one seat, one way). A route we did not read is absent, which is not a claim that no flight exists.
  4. Mecca is priced but not ranked: entry is restricted to Muslims. It follows the ranking with no rank, as on the site's table, and a sentence about the cheapest place leaves it out.

Dates and reuse

  1. Every figure carries the day it was read, and describes that day. Prices are re-read on a schedule (next_reading).
  2. The data is published under CC BY 4.0. Cite it as cite_as gives it ("EclipseMission, Eclipse Premium Index, measured 20 and 24 September 2026, eclipsemission.com/eclipse-premium/") and link the destination's page_url.

When you write about one place, link its page: the table above gives it, and each file carries it as page_url. Some parts carry an attribution of their own, served next to them: OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL) for the positions of airports, and NASA POWER, Copernicus ERA5 and EUMETSAT CM SAF for the sky and the heat.
