Independence

A site that tells you what a trip costs is worth exactly as much as its independence from the people selling the trip. So here is the money, plainly.

Today: nothing

As of 17 August 2026, this site earns no money at all. There are no affiliate links, no sponsored placements, no advertising, and no commercial relationship with any hotel, airline, booking platform or eclipse tour operator. Nobody has paid for a mention, and nobody has been offered one.

The domain and the hosting are paid for by the publisher, and the cost is trivial: a domain name and a free hosting plan.

What happens when that changes

It may change. Affiliate links are the obvious way a site like this pays for itself, and we would rather tell you the rules now than announce them afterwards. If a paid link appears, these hold:

  1. A ranking is never for sale. The cost scale is ordered by measured cost and by the risk you carry on the morning of the eclipse. A commission cannot move a rung, and no operator is added to a page because it pays.
  2. Every paid link is marked as one, at the link itself, not only in a policy page you would have to go looking for.
  3. This page says what is earned, and stops saying "nothing" the day that stops being true.
  4. No page is written because it can be monetised. The measurements decide what gets published, in the order the measurements arrive.

What we will not take

A free stay, a press trip or a discounted room in exchange for coverage — because the whole point of this site is that the price you read is the price a stranger pays, measured from outside. A figure obtained as a favour is not a measurement, and it would quietly corrupt the one number the site exists to publish.

How to check

Every price here carries the platform it came from and the date it was observed, so you can go and look. When a figure cannot be measured, the page says "being measured" rather than filling the gap with an estimate. That is the mechanism, and it is described in full in how we measure.
